We all live through every season but how aware are you of the changes that your body goes through with this seasonal variation? As we’re currently in winter/spring, now is the time to start prepping your mind and body to go into summer. By preparing ourselves, we can fully enjoy summer, making sure that we’re happy and healthy and ready for anything life throws at us!

Eating Light & Healthily

Perhaps the most important of all Ayurveda guidelines, it’s important to remember that our bodies require a consistent and regular supply of heavy foods during the winter months. This allows us to hold fat during the winters.

However, in the summer, this role is reversed, and we can eat much lighter foods, while still eating lots of fruits and vegetables. Don’t forget to drink lots of fluids to stay hydrated to keep your skin and organs working optimally.

Bask in the Sunlight

Sunlight is such an important part of life and provides us with the natural energy we need to get through the day. In the winter, it’s renowned for being dark and gloomy where we’re much more likely to spend our time indoors.

However, as the spring and summer months come into full swing, it’s time to open our arms to the beauty that is the sun. As the summer months come in, try to get outside as early in the morning as you can. This can help you absorb the sunlight for the rest of the day and helps you feel fresh and ready for anything.

Get the Right Clothes

Of course, during the winter months, it’s great to wear hats, scarves, gloves and big fluffy coats. However, this is completely impractical during the summer season. In line with Ayurveda guidelines, it’s important to wear materials that will allow your skin to breath naturally. This means wearing clothes made from materials like silk, cotton and other natural fabrics and linen.

Prepare Yourself for Summer Illnesses

Winter is renowned for being the most common time of year to get ill, typically with common colds, flu and other cold-related illnesses. However, summer does have its fair share. By being prepared, you can make sure that your body is ready to handle anything that comes your way.

For example, if you suffer from hay fever, make sure you have your medication ready and that you minimise your exposure to pollen and other triggers for your illness.

Regular Exercise & Sleep

This is an important note to remember all year round, especially once summer is here. One typical problem people have is trying to sleep in hot and humid conditions which can cause issues while trying to maintain a sleeping pattern. Try to keep a fan and light duvet with you so you can sleep optimally.

Likewise, exercise can take a hit, especially if you’re not used to running or exercising in hot temperatures. If joining a gym, air-conditioned rooms can help dramatically but if you’re training outside, remember to stay as hydrated as possible.
