Here at Antaryami, we love all things to do with Ayurveda. The practice itself has existed on the planet for over 5,000 years, and it’s only now, after centuries of culture change, that societies all over the world are re-adopting it.

From the original countries in India to health-food-crazed individuals in the streets of New York and London, this year is set to be the biggest year for Ayurveda so far. But, of course, this means changing habits and as we grow to learn more and more about the practice, many of us are going to want to give it a go ourselves.

But how can we actually do that? Today, we’re going to take a detailed look into how exactly we can incorporate Ayurveda teachings into our everyday lives and what you can do to make a start.

Stay Hydrated in the Morning

This is easily one of the most common practices that make people think ‘Oh yeah, that makes sense!’ When you’ve been asleep, you could have been laying motionless for about eight hours. I beg you to name one other time of the day when you don’t drink water or liquids for that long?

Doesn’t exist, does it? When you wake up in the mornings, try keeping a bottle or glass of water next to you to drink as soon as you wake up. Your body is naturally dehydrated and hydrating yourself when you wake up is the best way to start the day.

Move Your Body Clock Back

According to Ayurveda practices, sleep is one of the most important processes you’ll need to remember and manage. As human beings, we are known as diurnal animals, meaning that we go to bed when it’s dark and we’re awake and active when it’s light.

Be honest, how often do you go to bed at 10pm but lay awake scrolling social media feeds until gone midnight or playing games etc.? This isn’t healthy, and it dramatically affects our sleeping patterns. Instead, try going to bed earlier, and getting up earlier and you’ll notice an instant difference in how you feel.

Take a Breath

Being mindful of who are you and what you’re doing throughout the day is such an important part of Ayurveda and finding inner peace. Mindfulness, achieved through meditation, can help you to lower your stress levels by lowering the cortisol levels in your body.

Of course, some of us lead really busy lives, and meditation is not always possible. If you can’t find five minutes in the morning to close your eyes and meditate, even just stopping to take a single deep breath can be enough. But then again, if you’ve to time to sit on Facebook for four hours a day, you’ve got time to meditate for ten minutes!

Learn to Cook Your Own Food

Food is a massive, if not primary, part of Ayurveda practices so if you don’t already cook for yourself, now is the time to start. Preparing and consuming the right foods is vital to your health since it’s the only fuel that you give your body.

Statistics show that Americans spend more on restaurants throughout the year than they do in grocery stores. This just goes to show the disconnection that we have with our food and has caused huge problems with our health. Whether you get yourself a recipe book or use the internet, try learning to cook your own food.

Keep Yourself Up to Date

As we mentioned in the introduction, Ayurveda is becoming a bigger and bigger part of society and the global community. With this in mind, they’ll be more and more interest in the community, as well as an increasing number of studies and researches taking place.

It’s important for your own wellbeing that you stay up to date with the latest happenings in the industry. There’s nothing that’s more important than being engaged in the world that you live in and the actions that you take. Be the best that you can.
