With all the influence from the Indian government, it’s no wonder that Ayurveda practices are starting to take off around the world. I recently reported on the fact that the Indian government wanted an Ayurveda practice in every state, available to all citizens as soon as possible.
This booming of the Ayurveda industry was once again confirmed by Shripad Yesso Naik on Monday. The Union Minister of State for AYUSH stated that he predicts the market will increase by over 300% in the next three years. This means the currently valued market of $2.5 billion will be worth in excess of $8 billion.
This is a huge leap and one never before seen in Ayurveda history. He described Ayurveda practices as not a system of providing medicine but as a practice of longevity and the science of life.
Process in Front of Your Eyes
He also once again confirmed the fact that plans for Ayurveda, AIIMS-like hospital facilities were already in motion.
This speech was given by Naik as he addressed the Ayurveda Conclave with was jointly attended by the Ministry of AYUSH and the Confederation of Indian Industry. These are two major players in the industry that will be needed throughout this expansion journey.
Naik also stated that the process would need to combine these new and upcoming AYUSH systems with existing medical practices and modern-day medicines. It was also agreed during this meeting that ‘molecular-level’ studies would be carried out on specific leads.
Personally, the earlier these studies start, the better the practice and science will be. This could be extremely beneficial to the people of India and a step that could revolutionise the country forever.
Additionally, during this event, Rajesh Kotecha, the AYUSH Secretary, also made a statement. He claimed that current research needs to be integrated with Ayurveda research, as does the teachings about Ayurveda treatments and science. He also stated that Indian entrepreneurs need to see and utilise the benefits of Ayurveda early to help it get off the ground.
On a side note, the CII president mentioned that only 10% of the current Indian population uses Ayurveda treatments. However, in my opinion, this is a loose comment since the availability of Ayurveda centres has already been defined as inadequate.
On 17th October, Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister, open the All India Institute of Ayurveda. This is another huge step for India, and it’s safe to say that we’re all excited about what’s to come!
