With Christmas and New Year out of the way, many of us are taking a breather that trying to release all the stresses that came with this festive time of the year. While many of us were trying to cook and accommodate our family and guests, we had very little time to breath before we’re heading back to work and back to our routine.

However, you’ll want to make sure things don’t get on top of you without realising and that you start the new year in the best way possible. Here to help you out is a simple and super-effective one-minute meditation to release all that unwanted stress.

Sit in a chair, sofa or even crossed legged on the floor. You can sit however you want, all you want to do is make sure that you’re comfortable and that your back is straight. Place your hands wherever you feel they are most comfortable.

Close your eyes.

Start by taking several deep breaths, in and out through your nose. Try to focus on your breathing and making sure you inhale is the same length as your exhale. You can count to four in your head to make it easier.

Repeat a mantra to yourself after your breathing is regulated. You can choose whatever you want but try to keep it precise and direct. Something like ‘I love myself’, ‘I am strong’ or ‘I am compassionate’ is ideal. Repeat this to yourself in your head over and over again. Really mean it every time you say something.

After about 30 seconds, change your positive energy from inward facing to outward facing. Say a mantra along the lines of ‘I share love to everything and everyone everywhere I go’.

Repeat these mantras at whatever pace or frequency feels natural for you and suits the meditation session that you’re practising. The most important thing to remember here is that you want to mean every single word that you say.

After you’ve finished your mantra, concentrate and focus on your breathing again for the last ten seconds. Slowly open your eyes, gently and precisely stretch out your arms and legs and roll your shoulders back.

This is such a simple yet such an effective meditation session that can-do wonders for your day. If you can make yourself and others feel this positive, there’s nothing in your day that can hold you back.
