Wisconsin Hospital to Bring Yoga into local Elementary Schools

I can be considered very preachy when it comes to describing the benefits and positive effects that yoga has on the physical and mental body. I’ve always thought that the practice is in fact so beneficial, it should be taught in schools from a young age.

This would allow our children and younger generations to feel the benefits of looking after themselves and doing exercise which isn’t a sport that they may not enjoy. There are so many people, from political, scientific and religious backgrounds who all share the same beliefs.

And now may be the time for a change.

Wisconsin Elementary Schools

The Baraboo News Republic reported this week that the St. Clare Hospital Foundation and Pulse Fitness & Training were teaming up to start bringing mindfulness exercises into the classrooms and schools in their local area.

The fundraising group based at the hospital were so on board that they applied for a grant, allowing the gym $900 to purchase all the required equipment so it would be easy to introduce the practice to grade school level children.

Nicki Green, a trainer from Pulse Fitness, says that they sought the original funding, so it could start and expand both mental and physical wellness programs within the schools, aimed to help kids focus more in lessons.

One of the teachers from the local area, working in the elementary schools, went on to say that the exercise, especially the mindfulness ones, should be used to help make the children more aware of themselves, others and their surroundings.

Green claims;

“I think that students are able to do a lot better job of focusing and regaining attention when they get back to the classroom,”

“They’re doing a good job of listening to their own bodies to figure out if they are getting out of control.”

All in all, this should help children keep fit, mindful, and more focused during this important time in their lives where they are finding themselves and their own paths in life.
